What If It Rains on Your Wedding Day? Planning a Beautiful Arrival Whatever the Weather

If you are getting married in Britain, there is one part of the wedding forecast you simply cannot control.

The weather.

Rain does not have to ruin your arrival, your wedding photographs or the atmosphere of the day. With sensible planning, it can actually create some incredibly beautiful moments.

Do not spend the week obsessing over the forecast

Weather forecasts change.

Checking every hour in the days before your wedding rarely makes the weather different; it simply adds another source of stress.

Have a wet-weather plan and then allow your suppliers to do their jobs.

Door-to-door transport becomes even more valuable

A chauffeur-driven wedding car means you are not walking across a large car park in your wedding outfit or trying to find somewhere to leave a car in the rain.

Where venue access allows, you can be brought as close as practical to the entrance.

Allow a little extra time

Wet roads and heavier traffic can make journeys slower.

Good transport planning should always include some breathing room, but poor weather makes that margin particularly useful.

Protect dresses and veils

Getting into and out of a wedding car does not need to be rushed.

Allow your chauffeur and the people travelling with you to help manage your dress, train and veil.

The few extra seconds are worth it.

Rain can be beautiful in photographs

Grey skies produce wonderfully soft light.

Wet surfaces create reflections.

Drops of rain on polished chrome can look incredibly atmospheric.

Some photographers actively love working with rainy conditions because the resulting images can have so much mood and texture.

Your car can become part of the shelter

Photographs taken through the windows, beside an open door or from inside the vehicle can tell the story of the weather without leaving you standing outside for twenty minutes.

A classic car interior also provides a beautiful setting for portraits.

Embrace the season

If you have planned an autumn or winter wedding, perfect blue skies may never have been part of the vision in the first place.

Mist, rain, bare trees and an old country house can create exactly the romantic atmosphere you imagined.

Your day does not need summer weather to be beautiful.

What you will remember is how the day felt

Very few couples look back and wish they had spent more time worrying about the forecast.

You will remember who was there, how you felt walking into the ceremony and the moment you finally saw each other.

And perhaps the sound of rain against the windows during your first journey together will become part of the memory too.
